Questions over Reform UK candidate after allegedly racist social posts
Category: hate speech
It was reported that Mike Manning, the Reform UK candidate for the Zetland ward by-election in Redcar, had posted social media comments described as "racist, antisemitic, xenophobic". Reform UK withdrew its support for his candidacy, saying the comments were "unacceptable" and that Mr Manning did not declare his X account during vetting. Mr Manning apologised and posted, "In light of the unfortunate tweets I made, for which I profusely apologise, I have now resigned from the Reform party. If I could, I would withdraw my name from the ballot." He remained listed as a Reform UK candidate on ballot papers because electoral law prevents changes after publication, and the party said he would not be permitted to sit as a Reform UK councillor if elected.
