Councillor Carol Ney resigned from Reform UK on the evening of 7 August 2026, saying she was "unable to support the direction of the party". She has returned to sitting as an independent councillor after less than four months in the Reform UK group. Ney was elected to Southway ward as a Labour councillor in 2024, resigned from Labour in 2025, and joined Reform UK on 17 April 2026. Her resignation comes amid internal division within the Plymouth Reform UK group, including disputes over the handling of a controversial social media comment and the appointment of a deputy leader involving group leader Councillor Steve Ricketts.
