Alan Stone was selected to stand in Basingstoke. In 2025 he reportedly provoked public anger after tweeting a comment that was read as endorsing Andrew Tate’s view that women can bear responsibility if they are sexually assaulted. Stone wrote, "if i left my valuables on show in my car, i wouldn’t be surprised if it enticed someone to break in". He remained the selected candidate despite the controversy.

Alan Stone, selected as a Reform UK candidate in Basingstoke, drew widespread condemnation in 2025 after a tweet in which he appeared to concur with Andrew Tate's assertion that women bear responsibility if they are sexually assaulted. Mr Stone wrote that "if I left my valuables on show in my car, I wouldn't be surprised if it enticed someone to break in", using a burglary analogy to describe sexual assault. The post prompted fury at the time but did not prevent his selection as a Reform candidate for the 7 May 2026 elections. HOPE not hate's April 2026 report cited it as one of the clearest examples of the party continuing to stand candidates whose public statements had already generated significant controversy, despite Reform's claim its vetting was "the best in the country".
