Cllr Rowland O'Connor was one of five Reform UK councillors who resigned from the party's Cornwall Council group in October 2025, citing interference from the national party in the running of the local group. He then co-founded the Cornish Independent Non-Aligned Group, providing a landing spot for other Reform defectors on the council. The October 2025 departure of Mr O'Connor, alongside Rob Parsonage, Christine Parsonage, Karen Knight and Anna Thomason-Kenyon, was the opening move in a rolling series of Reform Cornwall departures that has since taken the group down to 21 councillors and left Cornwall Council with 11 separate political groups.
