A local businessman, he became the first Reform UK member elected to the city council when he won the Stowe by-election on 13 February 2025 with 394 votes, ahead of Labour's Matthew Turner on 329, on a 25% turnout. He said he hoped to "bring back common sense" in local decision making. In September 2026 Reform UK confirmed he had been suspended from the party "pending investigation" and the council website no longer lists him as a party representative.

Reform UK confirmed on 22 September 2026 that Cllr Dean Robertson, the Stowe ward member of Lichfield City Council, had been suspended from the party "pending investigation". The council's website no longer lists him as a Reform UK representative. The party did not set out the reasons for the suspension and Cllr Robertson did not respond to requests for comment. A suspension pending investigation is not a finding of wrongdoing. Cllr Robertson had been the first Reform UK candidate elected to Lichfield City Council, winning the Stowe by-election in February 2025.
