Darren Crandon praised Tommy Robinson months before saying support was 'years ago'

Category: social media conduct

Darren Crandon posted praise of far-right activist Tommy Robinson on X, describing him as a "breath of fresh air", urging him to "unite the right", praising him in earlier posts and defending associates and people arrested after protests; he also routinely used abusive language towards critics. He subsequently told reporters that his expressions of support dated to "years ago" and said he agreed only with some of Robinson's views. Those recent supportive posts contradict his claim because a recent public comment described Robinson in flattering terms and other supportive remarks are publicly visible from previous years, which has raised questions about Reform UK's candidate vetting. Crandon said he only endorsed some views and pointed to his military service in his defence; Reform UK did not respond to an enquiry about the matter.
