Andy Lynch, a former Conservative councillor on Surrey County Council for Horley West, Salfords and Sidlow, was investigated in 2022 for sending tweets described as "grossly offensive" while serving as a Conservative councillor. He was suspended by the Conservative Party over the tweets, found to have breached Surrey County Council’s code of conduct, and issued a written apology to the council’s chief executive, chairman, and leader. The council issued a statement of censure and the Conservative group removed him from a select committee. Lynch fully co-operated with the investigation, voluntarily admitted his conduct, apologised, and was later reinstated by the Conservatives, who he says found no case to answer. He described the incident as a past mistake made "in maybe not the best of the times."
