Councillor Karl Perks has been removed as cabinet member for highways and transport on Worcestershire County Council. Council leader Jo Monk said the change was needed for the cabinet "to operate as a cohesive unit" and Cllr Nik Price will serve as interim portfolio holder for highways and transport. The decision follows the December removal of former deputy leader Cllr David Taylor and a fractious budget meeting that approved a council tax rise of 8.98%. Perks said he was "disappointed by this decision" but "not surprised", adding he had been "critical of certain behaviours" within the leadership and that he intends to remain a Reform UK councillor on the backbenches. He said he was proud of the expansion of Worcestershire's "on demand" bus services and work on road collision data sharing during his time in the cabinet.
