Ann Widdecombe represented Maidstone as a Conservative MP from 1987 to 1997 and Maidstone and The Weald from 1997 to 2010. Her government roles included social security and employment ministerial appointments, followed by Minister of State at the Home Office from July 1995 to May 1997. In opposition she was Shadow Health Secretary in 1998–1999 and Shadow Home Secretary in 1999–2001. She later returned to frontline politics with the Brexit Party and Reform UK. Her long Conservative ministerial and shadow-cabinet history predates her current party involvement.
