Maurice Eglin stepped down as chair of North Northamptonshire Council on 11 June 2026 after Islamophobic, anti-trans and far-right posts from an X account he closed shortly before his election were revealed. One read: "How about f*ck Islam the hate, evil Religion that would kill my kind!"
