A prominent figure on the Conservative right, she chaired the European Research Group from 2017 to 2018, held ministerial office as a junior Brexit minister under Theresa May, and later served as Attorney General for England and Wales under Boris Johnson, before becoming Home Secretary under Liz Truss and then Rishi Sunak.
