Christine Duffy resigns, triggering Newcastle-under-Lyme by-election
Category: other
Christine Duffy resigned her Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council seat after submitting and withdrawing a separate resignation from Kidsgrove Town Council, creating a vacancy in the Town ward. Her resignation has triggered a by-election for the Town ward. Duffy had previously been suspended by Reform and her departure has attracted local party disciplinary scrutiny. Kidsgrove Independents shared a letter from Duffy saying she wanted to resign because she had received no training. Adam Griffiths, a county councillor and the Reform candidate in the by-election, said he respected her decision and would not speculate on the circumstances. The by-election is being contested by five candidates from Reform, Labour, Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Green parties.
Lynn Dean suspended after an undisclosed account was linked to racist posts about black people
Category: racism
Lynn Dean was suspended by Reform UK in March 2026 after Hope Not Hate alleged that racist posts on an X account, including offensive remarks about black people and people from Africa, were her work. Reform said the suspension was over her failure to disclose the account during vetting, and an investigation would follow. Council leader Martin Murray called the comments "unacceptable". Dean declined to comment.
